Solitude supports personal energy and well-being, while forcing oneself outside a natural zone wastes time compensating for weaknesses. Self-awareness is presented as a key asset in life and work because it creates space between a stimulus and a reaction. Without self-awareness, people react to events and others automatically. With self-awareness, people respond from self-knowledge, enabling growth and freedom. Many people focus on fixing flaws through courses and productivity optimization without asking who they are or what they need to support their personality. Focusing on strengths and a “zone of genius” is described as more efficient than dragging flaws. Lack of self-awareness is said to harm friendships, relationships, and peace of mind by causing judgment and anger triggered by underlying stress rather than the immediate situation.
"I've stopped fighting against my own nature. I draw my best energy from solitude. Forcing myself into places outside my “zone of flourishing” means I waste a lot of time compensating for everything I'm not. Aristotle was right over two thousand years ago when he said. “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Self-awareness is an asset in life and at work."
