Mackenzie Levasseur recalls the loneliness during years of infertility. "We wanted to be parents so badly. We had all this space and so much love to give, but it just wasn't happening for us." The struggle left her feeling shattered along with her husband after experiencing a miscarriage. The couple then shifted their focus to fostering children, aiming for reunification with birth parents, reflecting their desire to contribute positively amid their personal challenges.
"When that pregnancy ended, it shattered something in me, and it broke something in Lovensky. He's such a compassionate person. All he desires is for me to be happy, and it was such a hard season because he couldn't fix it. Nobody could make it better, and you start to lose hope," says Mackenzie. This illustrates the deep emotional impact of infertility and loss on their journey.
"We talked about doing IVF and fertility treatments, but we didn't feel like that was going to be part of our story. And then we began having conversations around what it would look like if we started fostering," Levasseur explains. This change in perspective brought new hope and purpose to their lives.
"Both of us wanted to turn our attention to things that were not about us...We were very passionate about reunification," she shares. The Levasseurs sought to contribute positively to children's lives while hoping for their own family dreams to be realized in another form.
