A new start after 60: I got divorced, became a lawyer and began fighting for other women
Briefly

Elizabeth Barbour embarked on a legal career at the age of 54, after previously working as a hand model and real estate developer. Despite facing barriers such as her age and feeling isolated in law school, she persevered and eventually found her passion in family law. Now at 68, she serves low-income clients dealing with domestic violence, viewing her legal work as transformative for both her clients and herself. Barbour's late career shift is marked by resilience and a commitment to social justice, reflecting her personal journey of self-discovery and advocacy.
I didn't want to do that. Law school was hard. I was literally everybody's mother's age. I didn't have a cohort of friends. I felt really isolated.
Now 68, Barbour is working on 50 domestic violence cases. The work is emotionally draining and rewarding. These amazing women have been kicked around the block and are able to say: Enough.
