"I do believe the more tools, the better, but we just don't have the resources for all the tools that may have some effectiveness," Ramachandran said. "We only have, frankly, the budget and money for things that we know, more concretely, work."
"ShotSpotter saves lives by alerting police to shootings within 60 seconds of identifying gunshots, providing crucial location, number of shots, and other details," said Deputy Police Chief Frederick Shavies.
"The contract is a response to critics, establishing quarterly reports to Public Safety Committee and negotiating ownership of Oakland's ShotSpotter data in the future."
