Love Hurts, featuring Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, struggles to succeed in the retired-killer-returns genre, failing to provide a compelling narrative or engaging action. Quan plays Marvin Gable, a real-estate agent pulled back into gang violence due to Rose, a former mob lawyer. The film's plot is flimsy, leading to an uninspired viewing experience where the characters are unable to resonate with the audience, repeating banalities instead of developing any depth. At 83 minutes, it feels lacking, as the action is uninventive and poorly stitched together, leading to a sum that is less than its parts.
The film fails to deliver on its premise and leaves an impression of not even attempting to engage its audience or tell a conscientious story.
Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, despite their talent, are given little to work with, resulting in a script that neither inspires nor entertains.
