Elizabeth line faces four days of disruption as train drivers vote to strike
Briefly

Members of the Aslef union are set to strike on multiple dates in February and March after the rejection of a 4.5% pay rise offer from MTR, operators of the Elizabeth line. With an overwhelming majority backing the strike, union leaders argue that MTR undervalues the crucial role of train drivers. MTR's managing director expressed disappointment over the rejection, while the union points to the company’s potential intransigence stemming from losing its contract with Transport for London. TfL is encouraging both parties to engage in dialogue to avoid disruption to passengers.
The planned strikes on February 27 and March 1, 8, 10 come after 95% of Aslef train drivers supported strike action to combat MTR's inadequate pay rise offer.
Aslef's general secretary criticized MTR's lack of recognition for train drivers' contributions, linking the company's intransigence to its impending loss of the Elizabeth line contract.
MTR’s managing director expressed disappointment at the rejection of their 4.5% pay rise offer, asserting it would have secured high industry salaries and improved terms.
TfL urged both Aslef and MTR to resolve the dispute amicably to protect customers from the disruptions anticipated from the planned strike actions.
