On Monday, a person brought a device resembling a grenade to the Brookline police station, raising concerns that it might be live. The Cambridge Police Bomb Squad investigated, temporarily closing a section of Washington Street while assessing the item. Fortunately, police confirmed it was an inert replica grenade purchased from an Army and Navy store. The Brookline police emphasized the importance of not handling suspicious items and advised the public to call authorities instead of bringing potentially dangerous objects to stations.
"If you encounter an item that you think might possibly be dangerous, please leave the item in place and give us a call. Best not to touch it or move it."
"Please do not bring a dangerous item to a police or fire station; let us come to you."
