Unexploded World War II rockets found in an eroding Nantucket dune were neutralized by state police bomb technicians using a controlled explosion.
Though not an official term, in football 'bomb squad' is widely used to describe players who have fallen out of favour but still remain under contact. Those players are often excluded from first-team training and have to attend separate sessions with the club's youth teams, or even on their own in extreme cases. Some clubs even go as far as restricting any contact between the first-team and 'bomb squad' members by scheduling training sessions at times of day that will minimise the crossover between players.
The Boston Police Department's bomb squad responded to a neighborhood just outside the North End late Monday night following a call about a suspicious package. Officers assigned to the department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit responded to 103 North St. at about 11:45 p.m. and learned that an unknown item had been found on the sidewalk, according to a Boston police spokesperson. The area is about a block from Faneuil Hall and a short distance from the North End.
"It's not uncommon for the conditions surrounding," FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Joe Duggan said. "You're in a smoke condition, and you're feeling the heat, and you're starting to feel some of the fire coming toward you. The victim felt his life was threatened and jumped as our units got on scene."
A Princeton man was arrested and charged Thursday after police allegedly found nine explosive devices in his truck, the Princeton Police Department said in a release. Jason Baldarelli, 27, pleaded not guilty in Leominster District Court to possessing explosives. He is being held on $7,500 cash bail, court records show. The arrest stemmed from the report of explosions on Wheeler Road on Monday around 4 a.m.
A man was arrested late Tuesday night after crashing his vehicle into a security barrier outside the White House, prompting a swift lockdown and bomb squad response. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that at approximately 10.37 p.m., an individual drove a vehicle into the Secret Service vehicle gate located at 17th & E St, NW, in Washington, DC. The individual was arrested and the vehicle was assessed and deemed safe, the agency added.
