Gus the penguin sets sail in the Southern Ocean DW 11/22/2024
Briefly

Gus, an emperor penguin, embarked on a remarkable 3,500-kilometer journey from Antarctica to Australia, finally being released back into the Southern Ocean after 20 days of care.
Carol Biddulph, a wildlife caregiver, noted, "I really didn't know whether he was going to make it to begin with because he was so undernourished. I'll miss Gus."
The government emphasized Gus's release was timed perfectly for his thermoregulation, essential for adapting to the Southern Hemisphere's summer as he had initially arrived malnourished.
Biddulph expressed her confidence in Gus's future, saying, "I've got every faith he will get home," after he gained weight and passed a veterinary check.
