Harvard initiatives 'create an infrastructure for opportunity' - Harvard Gazette
Briefly

Harvard University's Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is set to welcome new teens for paid positions this summer, contributing to over 600 youth jobs since its launch 25 years ago. This initiative is part of broader career pathway programs, including partnerships with Year Up for underserved youth and Skill Bridge for veterans. These programs aim to combat underemployment among young graduates and bolster local economic development by enhancing workforce readiness and providing job training opportunities, which are crucial for both individual participants and the community at large.
For more than 25 years, the program has provided much-needed jobs and career training opportunities for dozens of local youth - more than 600 since the program's inception.
We call them pathway programs because they create an infrastructure for opportunity.
These programs not only benefit Harvard directly as an employer, because they supply workforce capability that we may need at any given time, but they also help the economy in a much broader way.
