'It's WILD swimming for God's sake' - fury as wind closes Hampstead Heath ponds
Briefly

Hampstead Heath's men's and ladies ponds were closed on January 28 due to warnings of strong winds exceeding 40mph, as forecasted by the Met Office. This decision, made by the City of London Corporation, sparked significant public outcry, with swimmers expressing their dissatisfaction on social media, questioning the accuracy of weather predictions. Despite the high wind warning, actual conditions later revealed wind speeds under 25mph, leading to further frustration and confusion among patrons, raising concerns over the protocols for public safety in similar situations.
The safety and wellbeing of Heath users is our top priority. If wind speeds are forecast to be 40mph or above, some areas and facilities may need to close.
This is a disgrace to close the ponds. My weather app predicts much less than 40mph. Who made this decision? And why??? It's WILD swimming for gods sake!
