Jarva Burial Ground: Creating a Natural Landscape of Remembrance from Stockholm's Urban Discard
Briefly

The Järva Cemetery, opened in October 2024, honors Stockholm's tradition of inclusivity in remembrance, welcoming those of all faiths and beliefs to converge in reflection.
Designed by Kristine Jensen Tegnestue and Poul Ingemann, Järva Cemetery was established after overcoming planning hurdles, providing diverse options for burials and commemorations.
Järva Cemetery’s artificial peaks, created from urban debris and materials, reflect the history of the Järva area’s development, rooted in the ambitious Million Program of the 1970s.
The cemetery's rich history traces back to the site’s designation in the 1960s, evolving from initial recreational plans to a place for remembrance and nature.
