"Gardaí and paramedics were called to a property in the Hollyville area of Hollyhill shortly after 4am after being alerted that a male had been seriously injured. Mr O'Connell was discovered at the property bleeding profusely from an apparent stab wound to his chest. The young man was conscious when emergency services arrived but later became unresponsive. He was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where, despite the desperate efforts of doctors to stabilise his condition, he died a short time later."
"The deceased has been named locally as Mark O'Connell (38). He did not reside at the property where he was found badly injured. The deceased was originally from the Gurranabraher area. Initial indications are that the man had suffered multiple injuries including one fatal stab wound. The Office of the State Pathologist was notified and a full post mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted at CUH."
Gardaí and paramedics attended a Hollyville property in Hollyhill shortly after 4am following a report of a seriously injured male. Mark O'Connell, 38, was found bleeding from an apparent chest stab wound, conscious on arrival but later unresponsive, and died after being taken to Cork University Hospital. Initial indications point to multiple injuries including a fatal stab wound. A man in his 50s, understood to have been known to the deceased, was arrested at the scene and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Gardaí are conducting door-to-door inquiries, forensic and technical examinations, CCTV checks, and a post mortem has been scheduled at CUH.
