Curtis Field, the athletic director for Auburn High School, has been charged with sending explicit messages and videos to a 17-year-old. He has pleaded not guilty to providing obscene material to a minor and was released on bail after arraignment. The investigation began at the request of school administrators after they learned about the communications. Field reportedly interacted with the minor via Snapchat, sending explicit materials while claiming to assume the recipient was an adult, asserting he had only engaged in such exchanges with those he met on Grindr.
In a message to families and staff, Auburn Superintendent of Schools Beth Chamberland said the district immediately interviewed Field, placed him on administrative leave, and alerted police after learning of the "troubling communications" Jan. 22.
The 17-year-old told Lamoreaux they exchanged sexually explicit messages with Field after Field reached out to them over Snapchat in October, according to the statement of facts.
Field admitted to sending explicit videos but said he believed the recipient was an adult.
Curtis Field, 29, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of providing obscene material to a minor.
