The Monterrey County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team faced extreme challenges for 16 hours, delivering a sick hiker to safety amid tumultuous weather and difficult terrain.
Rescue efforts were significantly hampered by heavy rainfall that increased river levels, stranding half a dozen rescuers overnight and making air evacuation impossible.
Beginning their mission at 8 p.m. Saturday, the search and rescue teams had to navigate treacherous conditions while ensuring the hiker received the necessary medical attention.
Despite efforts from the U.S. Coast Guard, weather conditions prevented any airlift, forcing the rescuers to rely solely on their own strength and teamwork.
