Asylum and Migration Minister Marjolein Faber emphasized that the government aims to reduce the "influx" of migrants through increased border checks, specifically targeting irregular immigration.
Faber defended the measures, stating, "I don't see it as symbolic politics at all," indicating the government's commitment to tackle the challenges posed by immigration.

Despite implementing these controls, the border police acknowledged challenges in staffing, having only 50 officers for about 840 border crossings.
