Karen Whaley, 64, has been charged with elder abuse and battery after allegedly assaulting her 87-year-old mother. The incident on January 28, 2025, sent the mother to the hospital, revealing extensive bruising. Although this assault prompted legal action, police learned the abuse had been ongoing since 2016, according to victim statements. Whaley is currently held in Santa Rita Jail with a bail set at $50,000, having entered a not guilty plea. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Valentine's Day, February 14, 2025.
On the day of the assault, the 87-year-old woman was covered in bruises and required hospitalization. Whaley allegedly beat her and pulled her out of her bed.
