Police bid to stop shop selling high-strength beers from 5.30am
Briefly

Brent Council is considering a premises licence application from Gladstone Mini Mart to sell alcohol daily from 5:30am to 11pm. Police recommend refusal due to significant crime concerns; in October 2024 alone, there were 193 reported crimes in the vicinity, including violence and drug-related incidents. The officer highlighted potential links between alcohol sales and increased antisocial behaviour. Although the premises is just outside a designated Cumulative Impact Zone, police insist that granting the licence may worsen crime and disruptive behavior, urging appropriate licensing conditions to mitigate risks.
The police warn that granting the licence could exacerbate existing problems in an area suffering from very high crime levels, particularly violent and sexual offences.
PC Phil Graves expressed concerns about the high levels of crime and the potential impact of the new alcohol licence on local antisocial behaviour and overall public safety.
