Santa Clara County wants more family home care visits - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

Santa Clara County plans to utilize new Medi-Cal funding from the CalAIM initiative to enhance home visit services, aimed at supporting vulnerable children and families. Introduced in 2022, CalAIM allows providers to bill for non-traditional medical care, paving the way for home visits that deliver resources directly to families. With over 6,900 families currently receiving support, there is potential for expansion. Supervisor Susan Ellenberg highlights the proven long-term benefits of these visits, which foster stable environments and better prepare children for school.
The long-term benefits of expanding home visiting programs are really well documented. They lead to more stable, less stressed home environments, and children who are better prepared to begin school.
Home visits can help foster healthy parent-child relationships by providing parents with child-rearing tips, conduct health assessments or connect families to additional county resources.
