The San Francisco Flower Market has moved from its longtime location at Sixth and Brannan to a new site in Potrero Hill, marking a significant shift for the city's floral industry. After operating in SoMa for 58 years, the market concluded its business there, relocating to 901 16th Street.
The move comes after years of discussion about the market's future in the evolving Central SoMa area. Real estate firm Kilroy Realty acquired the property with plans for an office development, which ultimately led to the market's relocation.
While there's anticipation for the new space, the move has also brought some concerns. Some tenants have expressed worries about potential cost increases and adjustments to their established operations.
The new market aims to maintain the variety of fresh flowers offered, including locally grown and imported options. Twenty-seven vendors from the previous location are expected to move to the Potrero Hill site.
