Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Kitchen Disco shows during lockdown not only entertained audiences but sparked a trend in home dancing as a form of exercise. Research indicates that engaging in just 20 minutes of dancing daily can meet the recommended exercise guidelines of 150 minutes per week. The study involving 48 participants showed that dancing achieved moderate to vigorous intensity, comparable to conventional workouts. Experts concluded that home dancing offers multiple health benefits, including improved heart health and flexibility, making it a viable and fun alternative to gym routines.
In the study, experts worked out just how much bathroom boogying or staircase samba was needed to qualify as 'moderate' exercise.
Dancing can boost heart health, improve balance and flexibility and even reduce the risk of death - breaking out some moves at home works just as well.
