The initiative is a part of a £100,000 project aimed at enhancing the overall water quality of Heronry Pond, covering an area of 44,500sqm.
Tyler Randall, Thames21's river restoration officer, highlighted the dual purpose of the project: transforming Wanstead Park’s lakes into healthy wildlife habitats while improving water quality.
The floating reed bed will feature native plant species like purple loosestrife and yellow flag iris, which provide essential habitats and food sources for wildlife.
Thames21 expressed that this project is not only about water quality but about enhancing blue and green spaces to create a positive legacy for future generations.
