Alex Elderbroom, a recent graduate from Paul Smith's College, took a unique class on tiny house construction, where students spend three months learning every aspect from planning to building. This program, aimed at providing practical skills, is part of a broader trend in colleges recognizing the need for sustainable and affordable living options. With plans to offer a program allowing students to build and keep a tiny house on wheels, the class emphasizes the importance of such skills amidst challenging housing markets, especially for graduating students.
In a future version of the class, students will have the opportunity to buy materials to build a tiny house on wheels to take with them after graduation.
It's not immediately apparent that some students had even held a hammer before, so we started basic support safety training, demonstrating techniques.
