Thousands without power and water; some schools to remain closed and orange warning a 'certainty' with -8C expected in parts

Approximately 10,000 people are currently without power and another 25,000 have no water, a situation exacerbated by ongoing cold weather that is expected to linger into next week.

Margaret Attridge from Uisce Éireann warned about the risks of pipes bursting due to freezing temperatures, urging homeowners to insulate pipes and manage outdoor taps to prevent damage.

As fresh snow and ice warnings are issued until mid-day Tuesday, Uisce Éireann is actively working to restore water services to about 30,000 affected residents in various counties.
