After arriving at their Northern Ireland holiday rental, a family discovered bloodstained furniture, unsecured medications, and a room filled with sex toys. Despite the alarming conditions, Vrbo dismissed their complaints as minor. After further confrontations, including photographs sent to Vrbo and a frustrating call confirming their lack of urgency, the family contacted the host, who threatened damage accusations. Eventually, they chose to pay for alternative accommodations, and while Vrbo later issued a refund for the original booking, promised compensation remained unpaid and the property persisted on the site.
Norris expressed his disbelief at the condition of the rental, stating: "We were met by a bloodstained mattress, unsecured medication, and a master bedroom full of sex toys and bondage gear."
The customer service interaction was frustrating; Norris recounted: "A representative insisted that the health and safety implications were minor and that I didn't qualify for a refund."
Norris conveyed the dire state of the house, saying: "The house had not been cleaned and contained soiled upholstery and mouldy food, posing significant health risks."
Despite being eventually offered a hotel, Norris emphasized: "We declined and I ended up paying 2,000 for an Airbnb because Vrbo's promised compensation has still not been received."
