Grilling turkey can often lead to overcooked meat, but using indirect heat offers better control over temperature and cooking. Grill Master Silvio Correa recommends maintaining a grilling temperature between 325 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit to achieve even cooking while keeping the skin crisp. Placing the turkey off to the side on a cooler section, while using direct heat to regulate overall temperature, helps avoid drying out. Using equipment like a roasting pan and a meat thermometer enhances the grilling experience and ensures perfectly cooked turkey.
"Indirect heat is best for grilling turkey. It ensures even cooking without scorching the exterior," says Grill Master Silvio Correa.
"Place the turkey on the cooler side of the grill and use the direct heat side to maintain the overall grill temperature," Correa suggests.
To prevent burns and ensure crisp skin, rest the turkey over indirect heat at 325 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Using a roasting pan or aluminum tray with a rack can catch drippings and prevent fires while grilling a turkey.
