Kikau Alvaro has been named the new artistic director for CMT San Jose following a detailed nationwide search. He takes over from retiring artistic director Kevin Hauge, who has held the position for 30 years. Alvaro, a San Jose native, returns after a successful career on the East Coast, including positions as associate artistic director at Virginia Repertory Theatre and musical theater professor at the University of the Arts. His experience and deep connections to the Bay Area theater community played a crucial role in his selection. Hauge expresses confidence in Alvaro's ability to lead the organization into its next chapter.
Kikau won our hearts because of his well-rounded experience as a multifaceted artist and educator, and his vision for the future of CMT.
Nothing is more important to me than the future of CMT. I have had the unique opportunity to witness Kikau's growth from a performer in his youth.
