Following the August 2023 police shooting of Tahmon Wilson in Martinez, three officers were revealed to have committed misconduct. Officer Giani Arone used unreasonable force against Wilson's brother and all three officers attempted to conceal an illegal knife carried by Officer Cole Bennett. Their actions led to their termination after investigations confirmed violations of police department policies. Chief Andrew White expressed disappointment over the officers' misconduct, emphasizing the department's commitment to high professional standards and immediate actions taken against the involved officers.
"It is disappointing that misconduct occurred at the scene of this incident after the shooting and understandably adds a layer of complexity to the officer-involved shooting investigation," Chief Andrew White said in a statement.
"Once we learned of the misconduct, we took immediate action, conducting thorough investigations, and ultimately imposing termination as a disciplinary measure," Chief White stated.
