Vodafone, in collaboration with AST SpaceMobile, has successfully conducted the first video call over satellite using a regular 4G/5G smartphone from a remote area in Wales. This call, made from a location without prior high-speed mobile connectivity, symbolizes a leap in mobile technology, nearly 40 years after Britain's inaugural mobile call. AST SpaceMobile's innovative approach utilizes five satellites capable of connecting standard smartphones to mobile broadband, distinguishing it from other services like T-Mobile's Starlink-powered text-only service. This achievement underscores the partners' commitment to closing connectivity gaps and providing accessible cellular broadband.
