Strangers stop to cheer on musician performing at empty New York City restaurant
"Saw a man performing to an empty restaurant in NYC ... So we ... started cheering him up and singing along and then... [he] performed for us with his whole heart and soul,"
"He's singing towards the restaurant but the doors behind him are completely open and he was singing so passionately,"
"And then we realized that [from] what we can see, there was no one inside. Maybe there's people further in but the tables near him -- empty,"
"I got a lot going on but the meat and potatoes of who I am is what you saw in that video. That's really what I do for my living,"
Mishelle Ferro and her companions encountered 63-year-old Tom Riccobono performing passionately with a guitar at an apparently empty Times Square restaurant on Oct. 4, 2025. Ferro recorded the encounter and posted the clip on TikTok, where it has attracted nearly seven million views. Ferro and her group cheered Riccobono and sang along to Avicii's "Wake Me Up," prompting him to perform for them with full heart and soul. The interaction lasted about eight to ten minutes and created a joyful, spontaneous moment. Riccobono described the viral attention as surreal and emphasized that performing is central to his life.
