Trump's bid to kill congestion tolls could send Staten Island bus riders back into gridlock
Briefly

U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis has been vocal against congestion pricing, labeling it a tax burden on Staten Island residents. However, some Staten Island commuters have experienced reduced travel times since the implementation of the tolls, which aim to relieve traffic congestion in Manhattan. Bus riders Lynne Rapino and Anna Gorny highlighted the significant benefits they have noticed, reporting shorter commutes and less traffic since congestion pricing was enacted. Although the fate of the pricing policy hangs in legal uncertainty following Trump's actions, its immediate effects seem to be positively received by local commuters.
"The ride is much shorter. There's less traffic. It's just a much better commute," said Rapino, 57. "[My husband] commutes all the way to Midtown and for him it's been big, big time savings."
Anna Gorny noted the unexpected success of congestion pricing: "I never thought congestion pricing would lead to such drastic reductions in traffic gridlock."
