Brooklyn man triggers NYPD friendly fire after wild Queens carjacking spree

A 28-year-old Brooklyn man allegedly initiated a violent crime spree in Whitestone, beginning at a Mobil gas station where he jumped into an unattended Hyundai Santa Fe. He allegedly struggled with a station employee while motioning as if reaching for a weapon, then threatened a woman and used a metal hook to force a Toyota Highlander driver to surrender keys. While fleeing, he allegedly struck a woman and her 87-year-old mother, fracturing the daughter’s wrist. An NYPD detective pursued the suspect and was wounded during a friendly-fire shootout. The suspect was arraigned on 18 felonies, remanded, and faces up to 32 years if convicted.
Kevin Dubuisson, 28, now faces multiple felony charges after the chaos, which began at a Mobil gas station and ended with a detective shot in both the hand and leg during a standoff. The spree included three separate robbery attempts, two women injured by a vehicle collision, and a violent confrontation with police officers who mistakenly opened fire on one of their own. A station employee tried to stop him, leading to a physical struggle. Video footage showed Dubuisson then motioning as if reaching for a weapon tucked in his waistband. Witnesses reported that Dubuisson threatened a nearby woman by simulating a firearm and saying he would kill her.
