Dig Into Fun, Giant Garlic Knots at This New Greenwich Village Restaurant
"I went to Arvine, the new Greenwich Village spot from Adrien Falcon (Bouley, Keith McNally restaurants) and chef Joe Anthony (Daniel, Union Square Cafe), and it's terrific. It reminds me of Chambers or the Noortwyck in which it's a great place to drink super-interesting and uncommon wines - but don't call it a wine bar. The scallops or the clams would be my go-tos, but I liked the fun of a giant garlic knot ($14) served with a side of puttanesca to start."
"Tera, a new all-day cafe and bar, recently landed on the Lower East Side with coffee and tea during the day, and sool, anju, and wine in the evenings. Daytime brings espresso, a coffee omakase, and a tea service served in the semi-hidden tatami room, but stick around until 5 p.m. for a menu of small to mid-sized Korean snacks that pair well with makgeolli, soju, and wine. Start with the crispy kimchi chips and yuzukosho guacamole."
Arvine in Greenwich Village, from Adrien Falcon and chef Joe Anthony, emphasizes uncommon wines while offering seafood highlights like scallops and clams and a giant garlic knot with puttanesca. The expansive bar creates a convivial perch and features a weekday happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tera on the Lower East Side functions as an all-day cafe with espresso, a coffee omakase, and a tatami tea service by day and serves sool, anju, and Korean small plates by night, including kimchi chips, yuzukosho guacamole, jeon, abalone jang bap, and hot gamte somen. Bar Oliver offers a butter-forward bikini ham-and-cheese sandwich.
