Joey Barton kicked wife in head, court hears

Joey Barton, a former footballer, is on trial for allegedly assaulting his wife, Georgia Barton, at their home over a family dispute. The incident, which took place in June 2021, followed a night of drinking with friends. Prosecutor Helena Duong detailed that an argument escalated, resulting in Barton pushing his wife to the floor and kicking her in the head. Following the altercation, Mrs. Barton called the police, stating that it was the first time he had been violent towards her. The trial proceedings continue as the case unfolds.
Prosecutor Helena Duong told the court there had been a verbal disagreement about a family matter before Mr Barton grabbed her and pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the head.
As a friend tried to intervene, Mr Barton threw him off and said, 'don't disrespect me', the trial heard.
When police officers arrived at about 23:30, Mrs Barton told them: 'I've been pushed down and kicked about and stuff. He said he was going to fight with my brother and my dad.'
