"When the snow began falling early on Sunday morning, most forecasters predicted city snow totals of between 6 and 12 inches. Westerleigh, Staten Island: 7 inches as of 12:05 p.m. JFK Airport, Queens: 6 inches as of 1 p.m. Williamsburg, Brooklyn: 6 inches as of 12:09 p.m. Elmhurst, Queens: 6 inches as of 12:55 p.m. Flatbush, Brooklyn: 5.6 inches as of 11:23 a.m."
Most NYC neighborhoods already have at least a half-foot of snow on the ground during the ongoing winter storm. Central Park measured 7.2 inches as of 1 p.m. on Jan. 25. Eastern Queens recorded the highest unofficial total, with Bellerose reporting 9 inches as of 1:45 p.m. JFK and LaGuardia Airports had about 6 and 7 inches, respectively. Snowfall ranged from 5.6 inches in Flatbush to over 8 inches in several Brooklyn and Manhattan locations. The snow is expected to continue through the evening and may transition to a wintry mix of snow and sleet. All NYC public schools will be closed Monday with classes moving to remote instruction.
