After two losses, the Yankees won eight of nine games, defeating the White Sox with a strong start from Orlando Hernández and timely hits from Paul O'Neill, Bernie Williams, and Tino Martinez.
Despite solo homers from Magglio Ordóñez in the 2nd and 4th innings, the Yankees maintained the lead with solid pitching from Hernández, who struck out the heart of the White Sox lineup.
