Man (55) who died after getting into difficulty at Cork beach while trying to aid others is named locally

The incident was reported around 3pm, leading to a significant response involving the Irish Coastguard and several rescue units to save those in distress.

Despite the swift actions of the rescue teams, one individual, Stephen O'Callaghan, was found in serious condition and later passed away at Cork University Hospital.

The Irish Coastguard confirmed the scene was described as a 'serious incident', resulting in a coordinated effort from multiple emergency services including Gardaí and the Fire Service.
