"The world is at a turning point. Peak of global emissions is closely in sight," said Niklas Hohne of NewClimate Institute. However, he stressed that states must act quickly to drastically cut emissions to prevent dangerous climate change consequences.
"Renewables are in the fast lane, especially in the electricity sector," stated lead author Jan Burck. He noted a continuing trend towards electrification in mobility, residential, and industrial sectors.
Hohne pointed out that 42 countries' per capita emissions are misaligned with the Paris goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, emphasizing ongoing resistance from the fossil fuel lobby.
Countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Russia rank worst in the CCPI, reflecting their status as major oil and gas producers and underscoring the urgency of global emission reduction efforts.
