West Coast states to ramp up killing invasive owls to save native birds
Briefly

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to kill up to 452,000 barred owls over 30 years to protect declining native owl species in West Coast forests.
The barred owl removals would be among the largest such efforts to date involving birds of prey, echoing previous debates on wildlife management techniques.
David Wiens remarked, "It's not just one owl versus one owl. Because of their predatory behavior, they are basically eating anything in the forest."
Initial experiments over 15 years indicate that the strategy of killing barred owls could effectively halt the decline of northern spotted owls.
