The death of 93-year-old Elizabeth van der Drift raises critical concerns about how brightly colored laundry capsules, resembling sweets, can threaten the lives of those with dementia.
Assistant coroner Ian Potter emphasized the urgent need to reconsider product packaging regulations, stating that current designs may inadequately protect dementia sufferers and those with cognitive impairments.
Mr. Potter noted that dementia patients, often unable to remember their recent meals, might mistake toxic products for food, highlighting a significant danger in product presentation.
The inquest report stresses that while risks to children from such products are acknowledged, there is a troubling lack of awareness regarding the dangers they pose to vulnerable adults.
