A recent report from Validated Insights indicates that colleges and universities are reducing their reliance on online program managers (OPMs), launching only 81 new partnerships in 2024, the lowest since 2016. The sector is transitioning from revenue-sharing to fee-for-service models, providing institutions with greater flexibility and customization. This shift has been anticipated for years as institutions aim to avoid predatory practices associated with revenue-sharing. Notably, fee-for-service partnerships rose from 12% to 58%, indicating a significant change in how schools engage with OPMs as critics have pointed out the issues with prior agreements.
Colleges and universities are increasingly favoring fee-for-service arrangements over traditional revenue-sharing models when partnering with online program managers.
