On April 7, 2025, a massive fire engulfed a recycling plant in Paris's 17th arrondissement, resulting in an extensive firefighting operation involving about 200 firefighters and 60 fire trucks. The blaze produced thick black smoke visible from across the city, leading to road closures to facilitate emergency services. Although the building was completely destroyed, all personnel inside were safely evacuated. The fire reportedly started underground and spread quickly. The plant was crucial for waste management for nearly a million residents since its opening in 2019.
