The Photography Seoul Museum of Art (PhotoSeMA) opened in May 2025, becoming South Korea's first public photography institution. Designed by Jadric Architektur and 1990uao Architects, the museum features a unique twisting facade, symbolizing the transformative nature of photography. With a total area of 7,048 square meters, it provides a dynamic space for art appreciation, emphasizing light and community engagement. Inaugural exhibitions showcase the evolution of Korean photography, with works from renowned historical and contemporary artists, offering insights into the medium's development from the 1920s to the present.
PhotoSeMA's design emphasizes light and space, combining broad concrete surfaces with voids and light wells to create an environment conducive to introspection and artistic appreciation.
The opening exhibitions, 'Radiance: Beginnings of Korean Art Photography' and 'Storage Story,' explore both historical and contemporary perspectives on photography's evolution in Korea.
