Moylan's Brewery & Restaurant, a staple of the Bay Area beer scene with over 100 gold medals, will close its doors on May 4 after 30 years. Owner Brendan Moylan attributed the closure to economic shifts, market oversaturation, and changes in clientele preferences. He noted that despite their legacy in craft brewing and previous success, sustaining a large venue amid current trends has become challenging. Founded in an empty lot and growing popular over three decades, Moylan's significantly contributed to California's craft beer movement.
The beer business has changed - there's oversaturation - and our younger clientele is doing things differently now. Moylan's is a big place, we have a lot of overhead.
It was so exciting to be involved early on in the craft beer movement here in California and throughout the United States. Now, you go on vacation to Mexico and they've got their own little brewpub.
