The European Consumer Organisation, representing 22 members, filed a complaint against major videogame companies, highlighting concerns that gamers, particularly children, are misled into spending money.
BEUC's Director General Agustin Reyna stated that premium in-game currencies are purposely designed to manipulate consumers, leading to significant financial burdens for vulnerable players and their families.
The complaint underscores that children are especially susceptible to gaming addiction and that companies exploit this by using deceptive practices to increase their profits.
The associations believe that the lack of transparency about the costs associated with digital items often results in consumers overspending and not receiving adequate protections.
