Alexander Aiello, a 34-year-old Gloucester police officer, is facing serious child pornography charges following an investigation. Prosecutors allege he maintained a registered account on a dark web site for child sexual abuse material. His devices, including a laptop with a Tor browser—indicating dark web activity—were seized by federal investigators. U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley stated that Aiello failed to uphold his duty as a law enforcement officer. If convicted, he could face a significant prison term and hefty fines, highlighting the gravity of his alleged actions.
Aiello, a patrol officer at the Gloucester Police Department, allegedly had a registered account on a dark website where users could view, download, distribute, and advertise child sexual abuse material.
As a law enforcement officer, Mr. Aiello was entrusted with safeguarding the community - and that includes protecting children from exploitation and abuse. Instead, he allegedly participated in one of the most reprehensible forms of exploitation.
If convicted, Aiello faces a potential sentence of five to 20 years in prison, five years to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
Today, the FBI charged him for receiving images of children being sexually abused.
