NHS trust in 'fake medical records' scandal can show no proof of investigation
Briefly

The East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) disclosed in court that up to 12 medical records of deceased patients may have been falsified, asserting a project aimed at rectifying the issue had been initiated in 2022, although it was unable to provide any evidence of investigations into these claims when requested.
In response to a Freedom of Information Act inquiry, ELFT stated that there are no internal reports or investigations into the alleged fabrication of records, raising serious questions about how disciplinary actions could occur without documented investigations.
Despite alleged ongoing efforts to tackle record falsification, the trust reported an increase in incidents where observation records were uncompleted but incorrectly noted as having been done, further highlighting inconsistencies in their claims.
ELFT initially communicated to Inner North London Coroner's Court that they had been addressing the issue of falsified records for years, yet they provided no substantial documentation to support this assertion when pressed for details.
