Dear Abby: My hostess had an unconvincing excuse for her embarrassing outfit
"I'm an active senior man. To keep my beard looking attractive, a hairstylist trims it every two weeks. I've had the same stylist for three years, and we have become good friends, to the point that she has invited me to her home for an evening meal with her family. I have been there several times, but on the last occasion, she did something odd and, I believe, disrespectful."
"To me, it was the barest thong and bra I had ever seen and 2 inches from being naked. Her excuse for the swimsuit was that there was something wrong with a spot on her hip that required a patch, and she couldn't wear clothing over it because it would put too much pressure on the afflicted spot. (I don't buy it.)"
An active senior client who visits a hairstylist every two weeks accepted several dinner invitations to the stylist's home. During the most recent visit, the stylist served him while wearing an extremely revealing swimsuit in front of her parents and son, which the client found shocking and disrespectful. She explained the outfit was necessary to avoid pressure on a patch over a hip spot. The client felt embarrassed and insulted and decided to stop attending. Politeness and candor can guide his response: politely refuse future invitations and, if asked, say he felt embarrassed by her lack of coverage.
