Trump seeks to end telework for federal workers
Briefly

President Trump has signed an executive order mandating federal agencies to bring their employees back to the office full-time. This move aims to address service backlogs and inefficiencies attributed to remote work, a point emphasized by Republican leaders. While Senator Joni Ernst criticized the prevalence of remote work, reports show that a majority of federal employees already work in-person full-time. However, telework advocates argue that flexible work arrangements are crucial for attracting and retaining talent within the federal workforce.
"Heads of all departments and agencies in the executive branch of Government shall, as soon as practicable, take all necessary steps to terminate remote work arrangements and require employees to return to work in-person at their respective duty stations on a full-time basis."
"Service backlogs and delays, unanswered phone calls and emails, and no-show appointments are harming the health, lives, and aspirations of Americans," said Iowa Senator Joni Ernst.
"A one-size-fits-all approach could dramatically impact the federal government's ability to handle the most important challenges that we face," said former acting OPM director Rob Shriver.
Many flexible work arrangements are said to be necessary for recruitment and retention of federal employees.
