Many workers aren't happy with their jobs, and their limited options to find a new one are contributing to an era Gallup is calling 'The Great Detachment.' The share of Americans actively seeking new employment has increased to 51%, compared to 45% in 2020, indicating a growing discontentment in the workforce concerning job satisfaction and career opportunities.
Workplace disruptions due to pandemic-related changes have led to significant turnover and pressure on employees. According to Gallup, 70% of workers report that their organization has been disrupted in the past year, resulting in team restructures and added responsibilities amid budget cuts.
Employees today have different expectations compared to pre-pandemic times. As a result, work-life balance and better compensation packages have become vital to workers, who expect more from their employers while navigating challenges like remote work and organizational changes.
Interestingly, fully remote workers are reporting a disconnection from their organization’s mission compared to hybrid workers. This disconnect can lead to frustration and ultimately higher turnover rates if employees feel their work doesn't align with their employer's purpose.
